Look, I’m just this kid from Toronto who got his start in school plays. I still live with my folks who make me mow the grass and take the garbage out. Then one day, I’m on this multimillion dollar set surrounded by R2D2 and C3PO. Every nuance was surreal. The saber. A thrill. The outfit and cloak? Mind-boggling. Meeting R2D2. An out-of-body experience.
Adam Driver being asked if he could see through the mask well.
I’ve always been kind of a hermit. I find my joy in the little things they want to take away from me. Prior to all this, I took pleasure from being the observer. Now I’m the observed.
I find that the acting’s getting easier - with experience, everything is more instinctual.
I like the idea of being a sculptor. Just me alone, making something - that solitary existence.
For me honestly, what has Star Wars done? more than fifty million in pre-sale tickets. Where the racists at, man? Because those guys booked their tickets for the movie, regardless. And that’s something i like to fixate on, the true star wars fans who are just ready to see a good movie, despite my gorgeous chocolate skin.
As an actor you’re very aware and you just let things affect you. Every time I go to another country I start to play with the accent. I started saying wanker a lot. [laughter] I love all the British slang. It’s more humorous than derogatory.

I was living in a small town in Indiana working as a telemarketer and a vacuum salesman. I was really bad: the vacuums seemed to always be falling apart. Every time I did a demonstration, I’d say, ‘This is the material the astronauts used on Apollo 13.’ And no sooner had that come out of my mouth, something would malfunction.
I had a hard time talking to people. I started playing hockey when I was six and found myself surrounded with kids who were far more outgoing. I felt ostracized from the group I was trying to associate with. So I daydreamed.
